11th February 2022

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a half term! This has been the hardest half-term in my time as Acting Headteacher due to COVID and the impact of staff and children having to self-isolate. I said in a newsletter at the beginning of term that we would do everything to keep school open and I have only managed to do that succesfully because of the dedicated team of staff we have at this school. I would like to thank everyone who works at school for being utterly amazing for going above and beyond in ensuring children get a great start to life in what has been incredible difficult circumstances.

Changes to school start time

The school gates will be open from 8.45am and will close at 8.55am each day. If you arrive after 8.55, you will have to enter through the main office and your child will be registered as late. School and Nursery will close at 3:10pm.

School is changing the approach to how we teach phonics and reading which has meant changing the teaching timetables for each class. Phonics and reading will now be taught promptly from 9.00am across all year groups. Therefore if your child arrives late, they will miss their vital phonics lesson and reading practice that day.

As you can see from the information below, every minute matters and in order to help your child get the best start in life, please ensure they arrive on time.

Further details about our new approach to teaching phonics and early reading will be shared with parents after half term.

Staff Leavers

This term we have sadly said goodbye to Miss Rimmer and Mrs O’Reilly. Miss Rimmer has worked at Meadowhead Infants for 18 years and has had a massive impact on many childrens’ lives. We would like to thank her for all her hard work and dedication over the many years. Mrs O’Reilly has been a wonderful member of our welfare team. She made lunchtimes fun for all children and will be missed by everyone. I am sure you will join me in wishing them both the best of luck in the future.

Nursery Places

If your child, or a child you know is currently 3 years old or turns 3 before the end of March and would like to attend nursery, please point them in the direction of our amazing nursery as we have places available. Our qualified teacher and highly experienced team of staff plan fantastic activites to ensure our pre-school children get the best start to their education.

Our school data shows us that children who have attended our Nursery are more ‘school ready’ when they enter Reception than those who have not. If you are thinking of taking up a nursery place please contact school and we will gladly welcome you.

We continue to offer 30-hours free childcare if you meet the criteria set by the government. If you not eligible for 30 hours, your child can still join our nursery on a full time basis with a small fee. Costs are £15 for an afternoon session with lunch provided or £13.50 if you would prefer to send your child with a packed lunch. You are also able to ‘pay as you go’ and choose the days of the week that you would like your child to attend. Please speak to the office or call 01254 202600 for more information.

Celebration Assembly

Parents of children who are getting an award in our Celebration Assembly will be invited back into school after hald term. Celebration assembly will take place at 2:20pm every Friday.

Breakfast Club

A reminder to all parents and carers that we have a fantastic breakfast club is open every day from 7:45am. It costs only a £1 and is open to all children. No pre-booking is required; you can just turn up!

Due to an INSET day on Monday 21st February, school will re-open to all children on Tuesday 22nd February at 8.45am or 7.45am for breakfast club.

I wish all our families a happy and safe half term,

James Waddington,

Acting Headteacher
