Dear Parents and Carers.

I hope you are all well.

I know these letters contain a lot of information but it is vital you read them carefully so you know what is happening in school and don’t miss out on any important information. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask me as I do my best to always be around school.

School remains a fantastic place to be as we all adapt to the new normal. The Nursery and Reception children have settled in superbly to their new classes. It is a joy to walk around school and see and hear the children being inspired by the fantastic teaching that is taking place. Here are just some of the activities that I have seen the children enjoy this week:

  • Year 2 looking after our environment by litter picking around the school grounds
  • Nursery children enjoying playing alongside each other in the outdoors
  • All classes getting back into and enjoying PE lessons
  • Making bird feeders and hanging them in the trees around school
  • Creating their own poetic verses in year 1

As you may be aware the Government are putting tighter restrictions in place as of Monday due to the rising number of positive coronavirus cases nationally. With this in mind, I am becoming increasingly concerned about the length of the line that is being formed as families wait for the school gates to open at both 8:45 and 3:00. This grouping of people could result in the disease being inadvertently spread and thus causing more cases. Therefore, please can remind you again to NOT ARRIVE BEFORE 8.45 or 3.00 in order to help adhere to the social distance guidelines and stop people congregating. There really is no rush. You and your child will not be in any trouble if they are dropped or picked up slightly later.

In order to encourage you to drop your child of slightly later I will be handing out raffle tickets to all children who arrive after the initial mad rush – I will be out at the front of school so don’t forget to get a ticket from me!!! Later that morning I will pick a winner and that lucky child can choose a prize from my box.

We are also putting measures in place to ensure we can easily distribute home learning activities if your child has to isolate at home. You will be receiving a letter from your child’s class teacher asking you to sign up to Class Dojo. It is really easy to use once you have downloaded the App and this will allow us to improve the communication between school and home. Don’t forget to download the App once you receive the letter from your child’s class teacher.

After school clubs are going to have to be slightly different this year as children from different classes cannot mix. Therefore, I have decided that every class will get the opportunity to attend a completely free, after school sports club for half a term. This half term Oak class have the opportunity to attend the club every Wednesday straight after school until 4.10. I strongly advise all parents take advantage of this opportunity and ask that you send your permission slip back to school as your child will really enjoy and benefit from it. The coaching they receive is superb and it will be a shame for your child to miss out on this free opportunity.

If your child has recently started school and you have not returned your admission pack please do so as soon as possible.

It has also come to my attention that rumours are circulating in the local area that schools are administering COVID 19 tests. This is not true and we will never administer a test on a child in school.

Lastly… A passion of mine is reading. The most enjoyable aspect of my job is listening to children read. I want all children at Meadowhead to achieve their reading potential and you will begin to notice slight changes. I am pleased to say that thanks to the amazing people at the Book Trust we have a free book to hand out to all our reception and nursery children.  I hope they enjoy listening to the The Runaway Pea.

As ever if you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask me when you see me out and about or email me at

Have a lovely safe weekend,

Mr Waddington
