Computing
At Meadowhead Infant and Nursery School, we believe Computing is essential in preparing children for an increasingly digital world. From Nursery to Year 2, children develop confidence, creativity and problem-solving skills through meaningful experiences with technology. We want our children to be curious, creative, confident, resilient and responsible when using technology, giving them the foundations they need for the next stage of their education and their future in a digital world.
At Meadowhead Infant and Nursery School, we teach children to use technology purposefully, creatively, safely and responsibly.
Intent
We aim for every child to become a confident, creative and responsible digital learner. Our curriculum helps children to:
- Use technology confidently and independently.
- Develop creativity, curiosity, resilience and problem-solving skills.
- Understand the key areas of Computing: Computer Science, Information Technology and Digital Literacy.
- Use technology safely, respectfully and responsibly.
- Apply digital skills across the curriculum
We use Purple Mash to provide a progressive Computing curriculum from Nursery to Year 2.
In the Early Years, technology is embedded within everyday learning and play through resources such as Mini Mash, iPads and interactive whiteboards. Children explore how technology can help them create, communicate and learn.
In Key Stage 1, children take part in weekly Computing lessons where they develop skills in programming, creating digital content and online safety. Computing is also integrated across the wider curriculum, enabling children to apply their learning in a range of subjects.
Online Safety
Online safety is an important part of our Computing curriculum. Children learn how to make safe and responsible choices when using technology, how to keep personal information safe and who they can talk to if something online makes them feel worried or uncomfortable.
