Religious Education Intent


Religious Education at Meadowhead Infants will support children in affirming and developing their own beliefs, values and attitudes through a variety of experiences and activities.


We believe that Religious Education should engage, inspire, challenge and encourage pupils to equip them with the knowledge and skills to answer challenging questions and explore different religious beliefs, values and traditions.


Where possible the school is sensitive to the social and cultural background of the children and is aware of the range of experiences and faith backgrounds that they hold.

Wherever possible, major festivals and celebrations around the world are celebrated.


At Meadowhead Infants we follow the BwD agreed syllabus 2017-2022. In KS1 The RE curriculum is taught for 5% of the timetable allocation.


Each year group will follow the syllabus framework, building on each unit of work progressing from Reception to Year 2. Within the framework, children study Christianity in Year One where they will have the opportunity to visit the Cathedral and in Year Two, children will study Islam, where there is an opportunity to visit a Mosque. This is in line with syllabus guidance.


In Reception, RE takes place through play-based and child centred approaches which encourage the learning to follow where the child’s interest and curiosity leads. RE sits within the ‘Personal, Social and Emotional Development’ and ‘Understanding of the World’ areas of development.
